Greetings to everyone at Immanuel Lutheran Church; my name is Mark Duer, the new Vicar starting August 2nd. My home Seminary is FT. Wayne, IN. I recently completed my second year of Academic studies at Westfield House in Cambridge England.
Some background information about me: I received my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State College in Wayne, NE. I am a second career student with over 12 years of experience in sales, buying, and retail sales management. I spent 9 years in the Army Reserves and in 1991 served in the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia. My unit was a Military Police Unit specializing in POW’s. During the Gulf War my unit assisted in construction of the POW Camp, housed Iraqi POW’s and provided for their needs.
My home church is Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. Over the past several years, I have taught Sunday school classes, helped with VBS, assisted with Sunday services and Preached at Good Shepherd.
During the 2006-2007 year at Cambridge, in addition to classes at Westfield House, I attended lectures at the Divinity College with some of the top professors in their fields. I did my fieldwork at Resurrection Lutheran Church which is located next to Westfield House. In my fieldwork I traveled to London, Sheffield and I preached in Sunderland, Oxford, and Cardiff, Wales.
During the year we had a month off between each term and some of the main places I traveled to were Edinburgh, Scotland and visited Edinburgh Castle, I also traveled to Rome and visited the Coliseum and the Vatican and I went to Paris and visited all the main sites.
I am looking forward to serving at Immanuel Lutheran Church and meeting everyone in the congregation.
In Christ
Mark Duer
